The Care Company Launches a NEW & INNOVATIVE Web Site for Family Caregivers!

There is a crisis in America. It’s talked about over dinner, on the golf course, at the water cooler, at parties; it’s talked about everywhere. And yet, no one knows what to do about this crisis in America. We’ve all heard of the Sandwich Generation, the Silver Tsunami and other clever names for our aging population and their caregivers. Most recent statistics indicate that there are 67 million Americans providing $360 billion dollars a year in free care and services for a loved one with no formal training. With Baby Boomers turning 65 this year, the numbers of our aging population are increasing rapidly. Today we have 70-year-old retirees taking care of 90-year-old parents. Seventy percent of these caregivers are women. Are we a country in denial? Did we ever believe this could possibly happen?

For decades our culture has done an excellent job of placing elders in alternative living and skilled nursing facilities. No one ever believed that seniors would outlive their retirement. But for most seniors, this is the case. No one believed that new alternatives to family living would now be part of the dialog. Families never planned for this stage of life. Most never entertained the thought that they would be caring for aging parents, sometimes for a decade, but in 2011, this is part of our America.

Family caregivers need help. Family caregivers need emotional support and family caregivers need answers to their challenges. Even if a family can afford to hire outside professional help, there is still the emotional challenge of becoming a caregiver for an aging loved one. Cindy Laverty, Founder of The Care Company, an Internet-based caregiver community is dedicating her life to creating a nation of Empowered Caregivers. “I have seen CEOs’ worlds rocked and wracked from the emotional strain of caregiving. I have seen families fall apart and marriages in ruin from the challenges of caregiving. We lose our way. We are not prepared and when the crisis happens, and it always does, we have no idea how to manage the new landscape of our lives,” says Laverty.

The Care Company’s mission is to create a nation of Empowered Caregivers, people in service who are knowledgeable, savvy, confident, strong, compassionate and healthy. People who are able to care for their loved ones while maintaining the balance in their lives. People who accept the responsibility of caregiving and seize the opportunity that comes with it.

The Care Company founder and President Cindy Laverty discovered that empowering caregivers was her true professional calling several years ago, while caring for her ill and aging former father-in-law. It wasn’t easy. Thrown into caregiving unsuspectingly, Cindy learned to navigate the complex caregiver landscape, which includes hospitals, doctors, bureaucracies, insurance forms, prescription drugs and more. Through that journey, she discovered how she could not only survive, but thrive amid the challenges. She decided to share what she knew with others.

Today, Cindy Laverty is a nationally recognized caregiving expert, speaker, senior-care commentator, author, and the host of the popular radio talk program “The Cindy Laverty Show.” The Care Company is her most recent endeavor. www.thecarecompany.biz. Laverty is available for appropriate television and radio interviews and speaking engagements.
